Last week I said StumbleUpon was your internet magazine. Well, it’s good but not very directed. RSS is laser focussed. Let me explain …

Imagine the media the ordinary bloke or sheila consumes. Newspaper, glossy magazines, TV, radio. If she’s lucky she only has to wade ‘through 80 boring articles to get 20 she wants. With RSS the reverse is true. She gets 80% interesting stuff.

What is RSS?

  1. Forget what it stands for. RSS is the name, anything else is distracting.
  2. What does it do? It lets you know when your favourite web sites are updated.
  3. How do you use it? You start a reader, register your favourite web sites, and read the updates.

What Reader to Use?

You may have noticed I’m a Google fanboy. This means we will be looking at the Google Reader. I’m not saying Google Reader is better, just easer to access from other Google applications.
