It’s time for me to inject a bit of passion into these proceedings. My shame, but the part of the internet I use most is surfing. Surfing turns your internet into an online magazine.

Surfing is random, or mildly directed browsing wherever you get taken. The most important web site for this is StumbleUpon.

StumbleUpon

StumbleUpon has two main uses:

  • A social place where you can talk about sites with others
  • A random surfing site

I should be more sociable and I will, but StumbleUpon occupies a couple of hours every day. Uses include:

  • Time-waster. If I want to avoid work and want to pretend I’m busy I aimlessly stumble
  • Relaxer. OK you’ve worked solid for an hour. You deserve some relaxation. Set the 20 minute timer and chill out.
  • Research. Real work happens here. Here’s an example of what you could do to research Firefox: set Tumble channel to Computers/Firefox, open Google Notebook to record sites you like, then Stumble until you get the gist of your topic.
